As part of the Year 9 and 10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies Course, students have the opportunity to complete their Surf Survival Certificate. The course will be run at North Wollongong Beach on Thursday 12th November, 2009. This fully accredited program is run by Surf Educate Australia and students will be accompanied by Mr Tim Johnson and Mrs Cyle Warren.
Students are asked to meet at the North Wollongong Surf Club, northern side, at 8.45am. The course finishes at 2.30pm and all students must be collected by parents by 3.00pm unless given written permission to do otherwise. All swimming activities will be either in a pool or on a patrolled beach in between flags. Swimming in the surf will only take place if surf conditions are favourable and will be at the discretion of the the teacher in charge. Each student is asked to contribute $40 to the cost of this accreditation which will allow the students to participate in surfing for sport in the future and can be included in their CV. Students need to bring the following: Swimmers, Towel, Sunscreen, Rash Vest, Sun Hat, Drink Bottle, Packed Lunch, Goggles (optional) and Footwear (preferably thongs) Note: No two-piece swimmers are to be worn by female students.
